Otha L Baldwin's Northern Pacific Railway personnel file contains a document filled out circa 1 July 1920 that lists his address as 411 Adler, Missoula, Montana. It states that his salary at that time was $139.50 per month, he had brown hair and gray eyes, he was 5 ft 11 inches tall, he weighed 168 pounds, and he had a scar on the left side of his face. He was listed as having one dependent, Winnifred Baldwin. His parents, Miles Hadson Baldwin and Lovy Jane Johnson lived at Prior Missouri at that time.

The purpose of this 1920 document and the significance of the date on it are unclear. This is at least partly because the top portion of the document is not visible in the image (it is not certain if the July 1st date is when the document was filled out or if it might represent something such as when the term of some type of employer-provided insurance policy begins or ends). This form might also somehow be related to his marriage to Winifred Myrtle Greenup (listed as Winnifred Baldwin) a few days later in July 1920. Most documents in his Northern Pacific Railway personnel file refer to him by his full name (with his middle name spelled out in full). In this narrative, that spelled-out middle name has been replaced by his middle initial in several places to save space and (hopefully) to make the narrative read a bit more smoothly.⁴

Otha is said to be residing at Missula Montana and to be age 25. Winnifred is said to be residing at Hamilton Montana and to be age 18. Both are said to not have been previously married. The child's name on the death certificate is designated "Jr" even though his middle name is different that the best information for the father's middle name (the father is listed as "O. L. Baldwin" on the death certificate). The informant (or whoever filled out the death certificate) may have thought the was a "Jr" because the initials of the father and son were the same.¹

Vivian Fields was born on 31 August 1915.¹

Vivian Fields died on 15 August 1916 in Arkansas. She is said to have died from pneumonia. Her mother, who died about two days before her, is said to have died from the same illness.¹

Donald W Wilson appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Spokane, Spokane County, Washington in the household of his parents, Harry S Wilson and Helen (--?--), at 828 Montgomery Avenue. The official date of that census was 01 April 1940. He was listed as: age 38, single, did not attend school during March 1940, had completed four years of high school, born in Pennsylvania, lived in same house on 1 Apr 1935, was employed, worked 40 hours the week of March 24-30 1940, zero weeks of unemployment immediately prior to 1 Apr 1940; occupation was listed as salesman working for a light and power company as a private industry worker. In 1939 he worked 52 weeks, earned $1400, and did not have income in excess of $50 from sources other than wages or salary. His daughter, Beverly R Wilson, also lived in the household. His marital status is probably in error, since his wife had died in late 1934 that status should probably have been widower. The report that he and his daughter had lived in the same house on April 1, 1935 suggests they moved in with his parents within a few months of his wife's death.¹

He apparently had no children at this time. He listed his height and build as medium and stated he had brown hair and brown eyes and was not bald.⁵

All members of the household were listed as being able to read and write. Ruth was listed as employed and working as a cashier in a cafe as a paid worker. Walker was listed as employed and working as the owner of a cafe as an employer. The ages at first marriage for the two of them indicate he had at least one previous marriage.³

A search of the data base on Ancestry.com for California births between 1905 and 1995 did not show any children with surname Sanders whose mother's maiden name was Fortune. Thus it is quite possible Ruth A. Fortune and Walker M Sanders had no children.

The official date of that census was 15 April 1910. She was listed as age 24, born in Pennsylvania. Her father and mother were listed as born in Pennsylvania. Her occupation was listed as Dressmaker (apparently self-employed, although the symbol that appears in that block on the census form, “OW,” may be non-standard). She did not attend school within the year prior to the official census date. She was listed as able to read and write and speak English.⁴

Lela Mae Philips listed as "Lela Phillips Seeman" and also as "Lela (Phillips) Seeman: married Philip Edward Johnson, son of David Martin Johnson and Frances (--?--), on 16 April 1912 at Masontown, Geman Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.^2,1

The official date of that census was 01 January 1920. The home was listed as rented and not on a farm. Philip Edward Johnson and Lela Mae Philips were both listed as age 33, both born in Pennsylvania, married to each other, and both able to read and write and to speak English. Philip’s occupation was listed as merchant with a grocery store (and an employer). No occupation was listed for Lela. Both of their fathers and mothers were listed as born in Pennsylvania. Their children, Irene Johnson and Pearl May Johnson (ages 5 and 11/12s), were listed as living with them. All of the members of the household age 10 and over were listed as being able to read and write. Neither child was listed as attending school after September 1, 1919.⁵

The home was listed as owned, valued at $5500, and not on a farm. A radio was present in the home. Their ages were both listed as 43, both born in Pennsylvania, both married 19 years, both first married at age 25, both did not attend school the previous year, and both could read and write. Their fathers were listed as born in Pennsylvania and Wales, respectively. Both of their mothers were listed as born in Pennsylvania. Their children, Irene Johnson and David Edward Johnson (ages 15 and 7) were listed as living with them.. The older child (a daughter) was listed as being able to read and write. No indication was listed concerning the literacy of the younger child (a son). Quite likely the instructions to census takers was that this question was not applicable to children under age 10. Both children were listed as attending school after September 1, 1929.⁶

Their children, Irene Johnson and David Edward Johnson (ages 25 and 17), were listed as living with them, along with a grandson Thomas Kelly (age 4). Their adult daughter was originally listed in the handwritten filled-in form as Irene Kelly, with the surname Kelly later crossed out (but she was listed as married). All household members were listed having lived in the same house on 1 Apr 1935, 5 years previously, (which was stated to not be on a farm), although this was probably incorrect for the grandson, Thomas Kelly, since he was listed as only age 4.
