At least one source gives her first name as Elenora.4 Elena Herrin was born on 10 May 1920 at Helena, Montana.1,2,5

Elena Herrin married Otha Leonidas Baldwin, son of Miles Hadson Baldwin and Lovy Jane Johnson, on 2 May 1936 at Jefferson County, Montana. Both principals are listed as residing at Helena Montana. He is listed as age 41 and was previously married. She is listed as age 16 and was not previously married. The marriage was performed by William Murtaugh, who is listed as an officer of the Salvation Army (a captain). Witnesses to the marriage were George F Haynes and Ardith Lay. The maiden surname of the mother of the bride was indexed by FamilySearch as Jacks, but, based on examining the handwriting in the document image (and other documents related to her and her family), the correct name appears to be Jacka.1,2

Elena Herrin and Otha Leonidas Baldwin appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana at 1915 Harris Street, enumerated 12 April 1940. The home was listed as owned, valued at $1500, and not on a farm. The official date of that census was 01 April 1940. Otha and Elena were both listed having lived in Sanger, Fresno County, California and in Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana ("same place"), respectively, on 1 Apr 1935 (they were not married to each other on 1 Apr 1935; that date was during an time period when he was on 7-month-log layoff from his railway job).

Otha Leonidas Baldwin (listed as "Otha Li") and Elena Herrin (listed as Lona, or possibly Lora or Lova) were listed as ages 45 and 19, respectively, both married, born in Missouri and Montana, respectively, and not attending school in March 1940. He was listed as having completed one year of high school and she was listed as having completed 2 years of high school.

Otha was listed as employed, having worked 20 hours, and not seeking work the week of 24-30 March. His occupation was listed as fireman on a steam railroad in private industry. He reported 32 weeks worked in 1939, $1100 in wage income, and had other income (other than wages and salary) in excess of $50. The number of weeks Otha worked is consistent with the 5 months he was laid off from his railway job in 1939, as noted above. Elena is listed as not employed for wages, and not seeking such employment. No occupation was listed for her. No 1939 wage income was reported for her and she did not have non-wage income in excess of $50 in 1939. The population schedule indicates a farm schedule was not filed for this household.1,6

Elena Herrin (listed as Mrs Otha Baldwin) attended a wedding shower in Helena, Montana, for Margaret Helon circa February 1941 prior to Ms Helon's marriage to Edward Hardy.7

Elena Herrin and Otha Leonidas Baldwin were divorced some time prior to 22 November 1946, when she remarried.8

Elena Herrin married Charles William Ward, son of Charles William Ward Sr and Alice May Hawker, on 23 November 1946 at Missoula, Missoula County, Montana. Marriage was performed by M J McPike, a Baptist minister. Witnesses were Evelyn Lockridge and Tom Rundal.9

Elena Herrin died on 13 January 1968 at Orange County, California, at age 47.10,5 She was buried at Lone Pine Cemetery, Darby, Ravalli County, Montana.10

Ruby Dell Fulks married Chester LeRoy Baldwin, son of Miles Hadson Baldwin and Lovy Jane Johnson.2

Ruby Dell Fulks and Chester LeRoy Baldwin appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Bearcreek, Carbon County, Montana, enumerated 4 April 1940. The home was listed as rented for $10 per month and not on a farm. The official date of that census was 01 April 1940. Their children Harold Wayne Baldwin and Wilma Laverne Baldwin were listed as living with them. Chester and Ruby (and the other members of the household) were listed having lived in the same house on 1 Apr 1935. Chester LeRoy Baldwin and Ruby Dell Fulks were listed as ages 48 and 44, respectively, both married, born in Missouri and Nebraska, respectively, and not attending school in March 1940. He was listed as having completed six years of college (or possibly one year, the entry is somewhat open to interpretation) and she was listed as having completed 4 years of high school. Chester was listed as employed, having worked 40 hours, and not seeking work the week of 24-30 March. His occupation was listed as school teacher in a public school as a government worker. He reported 50 weeks worked in 1939, $1800 in wage income, and had other income (other than wages and salary) in excess of $50. Ruby is listed as doing housework, not employed for wages, and not seeking such employment. No occupation was listed for her. No 1939 wage income was reported for her and she did not have non-wage income in excess of $50 in 1939. The population schedule indicates a farm schedule was not filed for this household.

Chester Baldwin's entry on the census form was on a line that required supplementary questions to be asked. The responses to these questions indicated his father and mother were born in Indiana and Missouri, respectively, his native language was English, he did not have a social security number, and his usual occupation was teacher.4

Ruby Dell Fulks died on 7 March 1998 at age 101.3 She was buried at Roberts Cemetery, Carbon County, Montana.3

He was taxed for (1) 75 acres of land on the Sandy Creek watercourse that was valued (or assessed) at $200 and (2) 100 acres of land on the Bizer Creek watercourse that was valued at $250. He also owned four horses valued (or assessed) at $125 and 8 cattle valued (or assessed) at $40 over the ($50) threshold value. The total value (or assessment) for the land and property was listed as $615 (but the page contained a notation – in a different hand – that this total should have been $665). His household was recorded as containing two children between the ages of 7 and 17.1

Surviving tax records for < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for the year 1841 indicate Thomas B Sills was taxed for one poll (he was a free white male over age 21). He was taxed for 77 acres of land on the Sandy Creek watercourse that was valued (or assessed) at $300. .He also owned three horses valued (or assessed) at $150 and 8 cattle valued (or assessed) at $50 over the ($50) threshold value. Surviving tax records for < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for the year 1842 indicate Thomas B Sills was taxed for one poll (he was a free white male over age 21). He was apparently not taxed for any land. He was taxed for four houses valued at $135. No children were listed.1

Surviving tax records for < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for the year 1843 indicate Thomas B Sills was taxed for one poll (he was a free white male over age 21). He was taxed for 107 acres of land on the Sandy Creek watercourse that was valued (or assessed) at $265. He was also taxed for two horses valued (or assessed) at $75. The total value (or assessment) for the land and property was $340 (a value of $330 had apparently initially been listed, which was later crossed out and replaced with $340).1

Surviving tax records for < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for the year 1844 indicate Thomas B Sills was taxed for one poll (he was a free white male over age 21). He was taxed for 101 acres of land on the Sandy Creek watercourse that was valued (or assessed) at $265. He was also taxed for horses apparently valued (or assessed) at $40 (the number of horses was not listed that year and the dollar value is difficult to read) and 4 cattle valued (or assessed) at $25 over the ($50) threshold value. There is also an “equity” value of $5 listed (is not clear how this was applied to the assessed value). The total value (or assessment) for the land and property was $395 (which does not seem to be a correct total). The household was listed as containing 5 children ages 5 to 16 (which seems inconsistent with prior and later years).1

Surviving tax records for < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for the year 1845 indicate Thomas B Sills was taxed for one poll (he was a free white male over age 21). He was taxed for 101 acres of land on the Sandy Creek watercourse that was valued (or assessed) at $260. He was also taxed for horses valued (or assessed) at $90. The total value (or assessment) for the land and property was $350. The household was listed as containing one child in the age range of 5 to 16.1

Surviving tax records for < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for the year 1846 indicate Thomas B Sills was taxed for one poll (he was a free white male over age 21). He was taxed for 101 acres of land on the Sandy Creek watercourse that was valued (or assessed) at $265. He was also taxed for two horses valued (or assessed) at $55. The total value (or assessment) for the land and property was 320. The household was listed as containing two children in the age range of 5 to 16.1

Surviving tax records for < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for the year 1847 indicate a B. T Sills was taxed for one poll (he was a free white male over age 21). He was not taxed for any land, but he was taxed for one horse valued (or assessed) at $40. His name is listed immediately prior to listings for Jane Sills and Polly Sills, both of whom were taxed for land on the Sandy Creek watercourse (100 acres and 75 acres respectively). It is unclear it this “B. T. Sills” is the same individual as “Thomas B. Sills”.

John Jarman, who was probably the married to Thomas B Sills's sister, Lucy Sills Jarman, appears on the tax rolls of < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for several years between approximately 1835 and 1857. William C. Fields, whose wife, Keziah Jarman Fields, was probably a sister of John Jarman, also appears on tax rolls in < Livingston County, Kentucky,> for several years (between 1841 and 1845). The names of other taxpayers in this county with the surnames Jarman, Fields, and Sills are listed in the “full” endnote cited for this paragraph. That endnote citation also contains a lengthy description of the content and format of these tax records.1

Oliver Monroe Roberts was born on 12 May 1898 in Missouri.1

Oliver Monroe Roberts married Easter Cordelia Johnson, daughter of Moses F. Johnson and Sarah Frances Cole.1,3,2

Oliver Monroe Roberts emigrated between c1923 and c1925 to California from Missouri (based on the approximate years of birth as implied from the 1930 census for the youngest child born in Missouri and the oldest child born in California).4

Oliver Monroe Roberts and Easter Cordelia Johnson appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Kern County, California at Section 24-30-24, enumerated 14 April 1930. Their ages were listed as 31 and 30, respectively, both born in Missouri, both did not attend school the previous year, and both could read and write. They married at ages 23 and 21, respectively. The home was listed as owned, valued at $500, and not on a farm. There was a radio present in the home. The official date of that census was 02 April 1930. Their son Glendean Ruben Roberts was listed as living with them, The one child in the household attended school and could read and write. Oliver's occupation was listed as being a bus driver for a public school (as a government worker).4

Oliver Monroe Roberts died on 23 February 1992 at Bakersfield, Kern County, California, at age 93.1,2 He was buried at Union Cemetery, Bakersfield, Kern County, California, (burial plot is Section 4, Row 22, Grave 11).2
