ChartsDescendants of Harry Ziegelneitzky
Descendants of Leo Golosoff
Rose Golosoff was born on 16 September 1908 in New Jersey.2,15

Rose Golosoff appeared on the census of 1910 at 180? Main Street, Tottenville, Richmond, New York.16 She was listed as a student, School #2, in the 1915 state census in 1915.8

Rose Golosoff appeared on the New Jersey state census of 1915 at 174 Broad Street (Ward 3), Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey.8

Nathan Golosoff and Anna Segal and their daughters Rose Golosoff, Jennette Golosoff, Sadie Golosoff and Freda Golosoff were apparently not recorded in the 1920 US census. They probably lived at either 112 Madison Avenue or 148 Madison Avenue, Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey, at the time of the 1920 census. The above two candidate addresses are based on addresses listed for Nathan Golosoff in the 1920 and 1921 Perth Amboy city directories (the addresses of the entire family can probably be inferred from Nathan's address listed in city directories published between 1905 and the mid-1930s).17

In 1927 Rose Golosoff lived at 182 Market Street, Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey. Her occupation was listed as "student".5 She lived circa 1929 at 384 Washington Street, Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey. Her occupation was again listed as "student".6

Circa 1929 Rose Golosoff received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from New Brunswick, New Jersey.18 Circa 1929 Rose Golosoff lived at 462 Amboy Avenue, Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey.18 As of circa 1929, Rose Golosoff also went by the name of "Rosy" (this is probably a college nickname; the alternative name Rosa also appears in one source document from her early childhood.)18

Rose Golosoff appeared on the census of 1930 at 287 Smith Street, Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey.13

Between c1930 and c1935 Rose Golosoff's occupation was listed as stenographer (the 1930 Perth Amboy, New Jersey city directory indicated she worked in New York City when information for inclusion in that city directory was collected.) She lived in 1931 at 287 Smith Street, Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey.3

Rose Golosoff lived in 1935 at 111 Brighton Avenue, Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey.4

Between c1936 and c1952 Rose Golosoff lived at 272 Market Street, Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Between 1938 and 1950, Rose Golosoff was office secretary at the Middlesex County Tuberculosis Society, located in the Raritan Building, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.19

Rose Golosoff appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey in the household of her parents, Nathan Golosoff and Anna Segal, at 272 Market Street. She was listed as: age 30, single, attended school during March 1940, had completed five years of college, born in New Jersey, lived in same house on 1 Apr 1935, was employed, worked 44 hours the week of March 24-30 1940, zero weeks of unemployment immediately prior to 1 Apr 1940; occupation was listed as secretary working at tuberculosis league as a private (industry) worker. In 1939 she worked 52 weeks, earned $1260, and did not have income in excess of $50 from sources other than wages or salary.20

Between 1950 and 1975, Rose Golosoff was employed by the Middlesex County Tuberculosis Society, located at 11 Remsen Avenue, New Brunswick, New Jersey.21 Between c1954 and 1978 Rose Golosoff lived at 120 Woodnor Court, New Brusnwick, New Jersey.22

Rose Golosoff left the US from the port of New York (New York, New York) on 15 July 1955 to travel to Europe on a long-dreamed-of vacation tour. She traveled aboard the SS T/V Roma, which was scheduled to arrive in Genoa, Italy on 25 Jul 1955. The 1955 trip was a guided tour, largely in southern Europe. A few years later, she traveled by air on a vacation that covered northern Europe (possibly including some of the Scandinavian countries.)23,24

Rose Golosoff died on 14 May 1978 at Middlesex General Hospital, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey, at age 69.2,25,15,26 She was buried at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey. She lived at 120 Woodnor Court at the time of her death. She had been attended for some months by a practical nurse companion while living at home. She had been employed by the Middlesex County Tuberculosis League for over 30 years (in Perth Amboy and later New Brunswick) at the time of her retirement (the league later relocated to Princeton -- and may have merged with leagues from other counties).27,26

Rose Golosoff's Social Security Number was 093-03-5345.15

Notes and Observations:

From Segal Family Tree Book: Second child of Nuna and Nissim Golosoff. Rose graduated from New Jersey College for Women (later Douglas College) in New Brunswick, NJ with a degree in Journalism. She tried to pursue a writing career but it was not financially successful, although one of her short plays was produced by Lee Jay Cobb and some articles were accepted by magazines. She was employed as a Public Relations Representative by the Middlesex Tuberculosis League for twenty years until she retired. As such she traveled to conferences in various countries. She had artistic ability and completed over 100 paintings, which she distributed to many members of the Segal family. (As related by her sister, Sadie Gumenik).

The US Social Security Death Index gives her last residence as New Brunswick, but her last benefit payment was to Perth Amboy. This "last benefit" MAY have been sent to the address of the Perth Amboy funeral home (Flynn) who handled that service.

Info from Ruth Bernards, July 13, 1995 (given to Mel Comisarow): Never married. Unusually brilliant. Worked in a high management position of the Tuberculosis League of New Jersey.

Personal recollections about Rose Golosoff are described in an end note.28
