The only known record of his existence (as this is written in August 2015) is a broken grave marker in the Stephens-Fields cemetery, which gives his name as "William F. M. Fields". The "F. M." is believed to represent the first letters of two (now lost) middle names. However, it is possible they represent an epitaph, such as "Forever Missed".2 William F M Fields was born on 26 August 1856 in Osage County, Missouri.3,2

William F M Fields died on 8 November 1856 at Missouri.1,2 He was buried at Stephens-Fields Cemetery, Osage County, Missouri. This is a family cemetery on what was formerly the Fields Family property in Osage County (and on a portion of that land later sold to Mary Elizabeth Fields and her husband Thomas Allen Stephens). This cemetery is now overgrown with trees. The name of the cemetery was "assigned" by members of the Osage County Historical Society based on the names on the one marker in the cemetery with legible words engraved on it. It is not known (as of February 2017) what the original name of this cemetery was -- or, indeed, if it had a name.1,2

Adam Smith was born on 6 January 1877 in Missouri. His birth year is listed as 1878 on one of the documents listed on his father's Civil War pension file.1,2

Adam Smith married Pearl (--?--) in April 1900.3

Adam Smith and Pearl (--?--) appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Jackson Township, at Greene County, Missouri, enumerated 21 June 1900. The home was rented and was on a farm. An agricultural census schedule was filed for this household. The official date of that census was 01 June 1900. This census is unique in that month and year of birth were requested for each individual, in additon to each individual's age at the official census date. Adam Smith was listed as age 22 born in Missouri, married 2/12 of a year (although this is difficult to read and somewhat uncertain), and employed as a farmer. Pearl (--?--) was listed as age 19, born in Tennessee, and also (apparently) married 2/12 of a year (both her parents were listed as born in Kentucky). She reported not having given birth to any children. Both members of the household could read, write, and speak English. Neither of them attended school within the past year. Adam's parents were the previous household entered on the census schedule page. A note on the census schedule page appears to indicate these households were in the southern portion of Jackson Township.3

Jessie Columbus Smith was apparently most commonly known as Jess C.4 He was born on 30 June 1883 at Springfield, Missouri. Information in his father's Civil War pension file suggests his birth year could have been 1884, as does the Find a Grave web site, the index of information apparently compiled by the state of Illinois documenting his death, and his 1942 draft registration.1,3,5,4,6

Jessie Columbus Smith appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Jackson Township, Greene County, Missouri in the household of her parents, Drewey William Smith and Emily Jane Fields. He was listed age 17, born in Missouri in Jan 1883, single, and employed as a farm laborer.2

Jessie Columbus Smith died on 24 June 1946 at Swansea, St. Clair County, Illinois, at age 62. Find A Grave web site indicates death was in East St. Louis.5,6 He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Cartier, St. Clair County, Illinois.5

Florence Millie Smith was apparently listed as Millie I Smith in the 1900 census and as "Mlla" or "Mila" in one document that appears in her father's Civil War pension file. It is possible her middle name was Mille or Milicent.4,2 She was born on 4 December 1893, based on what are judged to be the most reliable sources (although the specific month in uncertain in one of the Civil War pension documents, due to difficultly in reading the original handwritten document).1,2,3,5 Her birth date is listed as December 1894 at Missouri in the 1900 census, where her name seems to be given as Millie I Smith.4

Florence Millie Smith appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Jackson Township, Greene County, Missouri in the household of her parents, Drewey William Smith and Emily Jane Fields. She was apparently listed as "Millie I Smith" in this census. However, it is possible that Florence and Millie are two different people, who have been merged incorrectly in this compilation.4

Florence Millie Smith appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Springfield, North Campbell Township, Greene County, Missouri in the household of her parents, Drewey William Smith and Emily Jane Fields, at Grant Street.
