Morris Magness was born on 3 September 1900 in Arkansas.1,2

Morris Magness married Bonnie Kent on 9 February 1921.

Morris Magness went to Little Rock, Arkansas, from Newark Arkansas circa 21 October 1922. He had a position in Little Rock with the Missouri Pacific Railroad.3

Morris Magness and Bonnie Kent appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of at Newark, at Independence County, Arkansas, enumerated 8 April 1940, The home was listed as owned and valued at $2000, with no indication if it was on a farm or not. The official date of that census was 01 April 1940. Their son Mitchell Magness was listed as living with them, All household members were listed having lived in the same house on 1 Apr 1935. Morris and Bonnie were listed as ages 38 and 37, respectively, both married, born in Arkansas, and not attending school in March 1940. Morris was listed as having completed one year of high school, while Bonnie was lsited as having completed four years of high school. Morris was listed as working (and not seeking work) the week of 24-30 March, but nothing is listed for the number of hours worked. His occupation was listed as a farmer in the farm industry, working for his own account (self employed). During 1939 he worked 52 weeks, but no wage income is listed. The return indicates he did have non-wage income in excess of $50 in 1939. Bonnie is listed as doing housework, not employed for wages, and not seeking work of that type. She is listed as having worked 60 hours the week of 24-30 March (which might have been a number intended to describe Morris, but written on the wrong line of the form in error). Bonnie is listed as having no 1939 wage income and no other (non-wage) income in excess of $50. The schedule sheet indicates a farm schedule was prepared for this household.2

Morris Magness died on 19 June 1978 at age 77.1

William Edgar Julian died on 14 September 1955 at Selma, Alabama, at age 54.2 He was buried at Blue Springs Cemetery, Newark, Independence County, Arkansas.1

Bill was a very large man, probably well over 300 pounds when I knew him near the end of his life. He was working as a salesman and died in his sleep in a motel, while on a business trip (sharing the room with his boss, if I remember correctly). Paul Cummings rode out to Alabama in the herase that went to pick up his body. Paul then drove Bill's car back to Arkansas.

Around 2000, when I stayed with George Ann in Batesville during the Newark school reunion, Howard (Bill's younger son) and his wife were staying there too. He told stories about how Bill used to have a pet bear that was chained up behind the "beer joint" he (Bill) operated in Newark (before the county voted to go dry). People would buy beer to give to the beer (who would drink it and become intoxicated). I believe a version of this story is related in the Newark history book.1
