Peru -- Primarily Machu Picchu (Dec 2010)

This was in a building that is currently a convent, I think -- in a part of the facility that is a public chapel (and a tourist spot, I believe a ticket was required to enter). In this building, some of the original Inca structure seemed to still be partly intact -- incorporated into the Colonial-era building.

There had been a number of golden plates or shields on a wall here, with designs molded into the plates. There were historical or religious meaning to the design. The Spanish melted these down for the gold. However, the designs on a few of them were copied into a notebook or diary (it's unknown how accurate the drawing is at representing the original). This is a brass or copper "reproduction" one of the original plates based on one of those drawings. As best I recall, this was perhaps 4 feet high and 3.5 feet across.
