Peru -- Primarily Machu Picchu (Dec 2010)

This was taken as we were leaving the ticketed part of the archeological site at the end of the portion of the tour where we had a guide with us. This is the same building we had gone thru to enter the first terraced area.

They have added a thatched roof to this building (and to a few others) to illustrate what the buildings looked like when this was a living city (there is probably some conjecture in the roof design, but it HAD to be SOMETHING along these lines). The roofed buildings also provide some shelter for tourists on rainy days (and perhaps some shade on sunny days).
