Peru -- Primarily Machu Picchu (Dec 2010)

Closer view of the terraces is on the left side of this photo. The buildings at top center and top right had been a residential area, I believe.

One of the terraces has an asphalt walking path on it (they try to direct tourists to that terrace).

As indicated in the Information About This Gallery section, I don't understand how different this is from the way it was discovered and how much was reconstructed. It's difficult for me to visualize these retaining walls could have been in this condition following several hundred years of uncontrolled jungle overgrowth. I suspect some kind of recontruction must have been done to restore them to this condtion.
