Peru -- Primarily Machu Picchu (Dec 2010)

This photo was taken near the entrance to the ruins, just after exiting the bus that had brought us up from the valley floor. The route up was a winding road with MANY switchbacks.

Here I'm facing back toward the valley we had just come from. The river can be seen down at the bottom of the valley. The clouds BELOW this point are also visible in this photo. The town of Aguas Calentes is not visible from here. It is behind the peak on the right hand side of this photo.

The overcast sky (and, I guess the "undercast" clouds below us) ensured I didn't get any photos with bright colors. On the other hand, the made for kind of a mystic spooky atmosphere, which was appealing in its own way.
