Oldupai Gorge
This is the area where some important discoveries have been made involving early human ancestors. There is a modest museum on the rim of the gorge.
The name is more commonly spelled as Olduvai (a "v" instead of a "p") outside of East Africa. Apparently the first academic publications were in German when Tanzania was a German colony. That initial publicaton used the "v" spelling, and it has tended to stick. The "p" spelling is probably closer to the original name in Swahili.
