Kenya and Tanzania -- Oct 2012 -- Part I of III

This is about as cleared off as the clouds near the mountain got on this day. I had understood the main (flat-topped) peak is called Uhura. However, as I was checking spelling on the internet (in preparation for writing these annotations), saw something indicating the flat-topped volcanic cone itself is called Kira -- the name Uhura applies only to a peak (the highest point) on the crater rim (it can't be seen from where I was down on the plain, but that apparently flat-topped region really consists of 3 or four nested calderas and craters) The other peak visible here is called Shira. There is a third one, which I never saw, is caled Mawenzi (it was always behind the main peak from the view angles every place I was where this mountian was visible).
