Zebra

There are actually two different kinds of zebra here. The one on the left has light brown stripes (sometimes called shadow stripes) in the center of its white stripes.

The one's without the brown shadow stripes are the common zebra or Burchell's Zebra. The ones with the brown stripe are a subspecies called Boehm's zebra.

There is another species with narrower stripes in northeast Kenya. We did not go there and did not see any of those.

I the captions that follow, I'm just going to write "zebra"and not worry about trying to pick out that brown shadow strip, when and if it is present.
