This is in a area called Bethany. It is a Christian site. This is supposed to be the wilderness where John the Baptist lived (and where Jesus lived for 40 days and 40 nights and was tempted by Satan -- I THINK I have the stories straight here). It's not very photogenic. To me this is a "wilderness" more like the moors in England than the "deep woods" area that I think of as a "wilderness" in the US (but, of course, the King James translation WAS by people who lived in England).
