A kiwi, the NZ national symbol. This is a stuffed (mounted) one.
They are not extinct, but perhaps soon will be. Heard that most New Zealanders have never seen one in the wild. This is partly because they are now rare and partly because they are nocturnal.
I didn't quite understand the distinction, but apparently the kiwi are not TRULY wingless, but the Moa were.(IMG_4714.SX40.JPG)
