The outer surface of the shells is made of a tiles. It's designed so that every portion of the roof has the same radius of curvature. Thus the ceramic tiles are initially all the same (some later had to be cut,during construction, to make them fit at the edges of the roof, or where shell sections intersected). (IMG_4346.SX40A.JPG)
