Possibly a possum sleeping inside a hollow tree. Whatever it is, is nocturnal, but many (probably most) native animals in Australia are.
In Australia, they spell it possum (it's opossum in the US). The North American and Australian versions are similar (and apparently related somehow), but not identical, as I understand it. (IMG_4293.SX40.JPG)
