Kenya and Tanzania -- Oct 2012 -- Part II of III

Tried one of the Tanzanian brands of beer. I liked Tusker better, but that might be because it had a cooler picture on the label.

Tanzania seemed to have several "local" brands of beer. They had been a German colony for a time. However, I don't know how much of their brewing beer tradition dates from that colonial era. This seemed to be an "ordinary" european-type beer (made with hops, barley, etc.). There seemed to be home-brewed beers based primarily from millet (a grain) and possibly bananas (I seem to remember they werementioned as an ingredient at one location) using techniques dating from long before the colonial era. However, I did not see millet-based (or banana-based) beers in bottles or on tap at the lodges (but I didn't think to ask about them either).
