November 23, 2011 – Sakkara (Step Pyramid), large pyramids (and Sphinx) at Giza.
Step Pyramid at Sakkara (and related temple complex). The name of the place is sometimes spelled Saqqara.
The pyramid was inside sort of a large rectangular courtyard, with the walls of the courtyard made of a combination of stone and earth (which mgiht be more like dunes of blown sand). There were buildings (possibly some of them tombs) allong the walls. My memory is that only a porton of the original walls still exist. (IMG_0555A.jpg)
