  • [S536] North Carolina) James Robert Prince (United States, International Genealogical Index (IGI) (unknown repository address: unknown repository, accessed 22 September 2009). This approximate birth year is consistent with informaiton in the Predegree Resource Index at the same url. The sources indicate a birth location of Bertie County NC, which has not been included in the report. As indicated in discussion for this individual, CCF is unsure about any detailed information about this individual -- and, if an a ~1739 Henry Cullipher does indeed exist in this family, it is possible that a Henry Cullipher born in Bertie County is a different individual.

IGI item states James Robert Prince marriage to Alice Sanders, c1894, in Newark, Independence County, Arkansas. Alice Sanders's father's name is given as "Sanders," her mother's name as "Margue," and her year of birth as c1874. James Robert Prince's death date is listed as 3 July 1966 (no birth date). Source of information is descibed as "Record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church. No additional information is available." No other information appears to be included in the IGI record. On 22 September 2009, Carl Fields examined all of the marriage licenses issued in for Independence County for the year 1894 (and many earlier months and a few later months). No marriage license was located for these two individuals. However, it is interesting that there was a marriage for a W. F. Prince and a Margaret Sanders.
  • [S621] Full name used here is a composite from other sources. It's possible that two men with similar names are confused here: Joe M. Ramey and Joe B. Ramey (uncertain status in Carl Fields's data base as of May 2010).
  • [S637] Until 2010 the maiden surname of the two wives of Morris Slobidien was believed to be Frefon (or a variation of that). During the summer of 2010, Barry informed several people doing research on the Slobodien family that the second wife of Morris Slobodien was his (Barry's) g-aunt (and he remembered visiting her in the 1950s). Barry called attention to an 1905 ship passenger manifest (for Barry's grandfather), where the family name is clearly given as Trifon. The spelling adopted earlier by Slobodien researchers was due, in part, to the name as it appears in a handwritten 1889 marriage certificate for Sophia Trifon. The spelling of the name (and certain other words on the certificate) can be interpreted in multiple ways.

  • [S1038] Charles I Bardin grave marker, Congregation Shari Tephalo/Congregation Beth Mordecai/Hebrew Progressive Cemeteries, Florida Grove Road, Perth Amboy, New Jersey; read by Carl Fields, approx 2006.

There are three adjacent Jewish cemeteries at this location, some of which have had more than one name during their history (so the current name may not correspond to the name on, say, an older death certificate and burial record). The three cemeteries have separate gates and exterior wall designs (for the walls facing Florida Grove Road), but once inside a gate, there are (as of 2013) no internal barriers separating one cemetery from the others. Thus, in some cases, it is unclear which of the three cemeteries a specific grave "belongs" to. The three cemeteries appear to be inside the current (2013) city limits of Perth Amboy. However, they are probably close to a city limit and may be in an adjacent municipality. It is likely they were outside the Perth Amboy city limits (possibly in Woodbridge Township) at the time of the earliest burials. Also, the street name (Florida Grove Road in 2013) may have been different in a earlier era (e.g., circa1920s). The southwest corner of the cluster of three adjacent cemeteries is at the northwest corner of the intersection of Florida Grove Road and Bingle Street.

At least one of these three cemeteries (Congregation Shari Tephalo Cemetery) is maintained by Friends for Preservation of Middlesex County Jewish Cemeteries, Inc.; P. O. Box 306; Moorestown, NJ 08057; phone: 856-222-1418; (http://www.friendsofjewishcemeteries.org : accessed 25 July 2013). This organization was formed around 2005 and focuses on maintaining landscaping, etc. They probably have access to few, if any, burial records.

State File Number 32756, Registration District 313, Primary Registation District 2001, Registered Number 566. Francis J Dodson, died on 6 October 1918 (4:30 AM) at his home 2238 North Main Street, Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. Usual residence was 2238 North Main Street, Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. White male, married (wife's name given only as Mrs Francis J Dodson), date of birth 25 Dec 1878 in, Missouri, age 38 years, (usual) occupation: cabinet workman, Martin? Piano Company?, parents Thomas Dodson and Ara Ann Fields. Informant is Mr. Dick Watts (R #4, Springfield, Missouri). Death from bronchial pneumonia, no indication autopsy was performed. Burial in Clear Creek Cemetery, Greene County, Missouri.

This death certificate appears to indicate he was employed by the Martin Piano Company at the time of his death. Several internet searches in July 2013 indicate there was at Martin Brothers piano manufacturing company in operation at around this time (it had apparently earlier been known as the Martin and Martin company and may have specialized in player pianos). However, that company seems to have operated in New York, New York (and possibly also in Boston, Mass). The Martin Piano Company is Springfield Missoouri SEEMS to have more likely been a retailer (and possibly also a wholesaler), rather than a manufacturer. This Springfield "store" may have also have sold sewing machines, phonographs, and perhaps sheet music at various times when it was in existence.
  • [S1186] Carl Fields, "Personal Recollections about James R Prince" :

He was the grandfather of my stepsisters. His name was James Robert Prince, but he was more commonly known as just JR. I believe he died in 1966. I knew him, but not well (I’m about 70 years younger than him, so we wouldn’t have had much in common to talk about).

I’m not sure how interested you are in following up on him. However, I want to let you know there is apparently a glitch in the 1900 census that hinders researching him (I’m about 95% sure it is a census glitch). He seems to be listed in that census as Jones James (Household #101 in Big Bottom Township, Independence County, Arkansas – in the census return it’s “James, Jones”, which Ancestry took to be Jones James). He appears slightly below Bill (or Ben) M Prince, who is Household #99.

The Ollie who is his wife in 1900 is his second wife (if, indeed, his first “marriage” was really an official one – there seems to be a bit of a mystery there; there was a third marriage later). The Vickers child in the 1900 census is Ollie’s child. I’m quite a bit behind in entering stuff into my data base (on my computer, not (yet) in Ancestry), but I seem to remember her maiden name was Norris (or I could be confused and that’s the third wife’s maiden name).

I have that he lived in Wycough Township in Independence County in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses.

I’m interested in finding who was the father of James. There were multiple William and Nathan Princes in that part of Arkansas in the second half of the 1800s. It was very confusing. Based on a quick look at my records (which are not in good shape) today, looks like I deferred further research on him a couple years ago. However, I can probably dig out a few things if you are interested. I seem to remember there is a folder around here someplace that has stuff on my stepsisters’ family that is not yet entered into the computer.

This is one of several Find-a-Grave entries at this cemetery for people who may be members of the same extended family. These individuals are connected by a common surname have Memorial numbers that are very close to one anohter, which might indicate they are cclose to one another in the cemetery (with respect to distance). The people in this category include: Bessie Bob, Find-a-Grave Memorial 98083393, died Feb 7, 1985; Florence Bob, 98083395, Aug 5, 1960; Frank Bob, 98083395, Apr 26, 1945; Gedalia Bob, 98083396, Mar 9, 1931; Herman Bob, 98083397, Sep 9 1941; Ida Bob, 98083398, Jun 10 1952; Infant Bob, 98083399, Mar 2 1919; Irving Bob, 98083399; Maurice Bob, 98083401, Feb 17 1941; Minnie Bob, 98083401 Oct 5, 1947; Murray Bob, 98083402, Feb 6 1962; and Sadie Bob, 98083404, Dec 12, 1947 (of these, Sadie, Herman, and Irving are known to be connected to the family of interest on this web site, as of June 2014 -- the names Bessie Bob and FLorence Bob are also interesting because Herman Bob is known to have been survived by sisters known as Gussie and Florence, although their married surnames were listed as Baskind and Horowitz at the time of his death). The Find-a-Grave memorials do not include dates of birth (or, for the memorials examined closely, any other information transcribed from grave markers).

The fact that all these individuals have a common surname and that they appear to have memorial numbers very close to one anohter, suggests that these individuals may be buried close to one another (and thus may all be related in various ways). However, it is possible that the information in these memorials could have been transcribed from (for example) some kind of logbook or index, so that the nearness of the memorial numbers to one another does not mean there is any corresponding nearness of grave sites.
